A Moment in Time
Location: Chobe River, Botswana
Conservation of the African Elephant (Loxodonta africana) has been very succesful but the species is still listed as threatened. As the sun set along the Chobe River we were watching and photographing a small family group drinking at the water's edge and talking about a possible future where our childeren will not have the privilege of seeing these amazing animals in their natural environemnt. My goal was to create an image that captured the contrast between the intimate famliy moment we had the privilege of sharing and a very uncertain future. A slow shutter speed, hand held, allowed me to create an almost ghostlike image which captures a moment in time of a species will hopefully help define a continent's wildlife for many more years to come.
